Here in the states, basketball players are known for flopping but, nothing can compare to what we’ve seen during the 2014 World Cup. If soccer (football) is to become more mainstream here in the U.S., we need to get rid of the theatrical ‘injuries’ that cause the game to be slowed down. Just during the first round of the World Cup, there were 302 players that ate up over an hour and a half of clock time. And the number of ‘injuries’ was close to triple when a team was winning a game. Meaning, that when a team was ahead, they would fake an injury to eat up the clock in order to make it harder for the other team to catch up. It makes sense to see the teams that had done well had more writhing (squirming) time on the clock. Teams like Brazil, Chile, Honduras and Mexico all had the most ...

The 2014 FIFA World Cup started with controversy in the first few games of the weekend. The big game that everyone was looking forward to this weekend though was England vs Italy. The two European power houses had a first match in the humid Maunaus stadium located literally in the middle of the Amazon Rain Forest. The conditions were overwhelming near the end of the match with both teams cramping almost every minute. While other players received aid from each other and trainers to try and alleviate the pain there was one Italian veteran who didn’t seemed bothered at all by the heat. In fact it was just another day at the office for Andrea Pirlo. Pirlo is respected across the world as being one of soccer’s most outstanding mid-fielders. His contributions led Italy to defeat England on Saturday. Pirlo assisted on one of the goals and made key passes all ...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, except Jurgen Klinsmann. The U.S. men’s national team head coach is a complete idiot and I’m tired about hearing him make stupid statements. Recently, Klinsmann explained his decision to leave American soccer legend Landon Donovan off the 2014 FIFA World Cup roster. Obviously, that decision created a huge backlash and Klinsmann went ahead and defended himself during a recent interview with the New York Times Magazine. “This always happens in America,” Klinsmann said in the interview. “Kobe Bryant, for example — why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?” He has no right to talk ...
