Many people believe that the 2014-15 MVP award will come down to either LeBron James or Kevin Durant. But let’s not forget, when Rose was last healthy he also won the MVP award. In fact, he was the youngest player in NBA history to win an MVP award.
So with Derrick Rose being back in full force, he is most definitely a dark horse candidate to win this year’s MVP award. He even received MVP chants at last week’s Team USA scrimmage. Rose is even expected to make the final roster for Team USA. After watching him in exhibition last week, many analysts believe he has finally returned to his MVP form. He’s beginning to look like the same guy who led the Chicago Bulls to the top of the Eastern Conference before going down with back-to-back season-ending injuries.
The Bulls have always been one of the best defensive teams in the league. But this year, we expect to see them take a big leap offensively as well. With Rose back in the fold, Chicago will finally have an elite floor general directing their offense. He also has a far more talented team now. This offseason, the Bulls signed Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott and veteran Pau Gasol. All three of those players are known for their dynamic numbers. Nikola Mirotic is the stretch four Chicago never had, and Doug McDermott provides them with instant scoring. Gasol can do so much on both ends of the floor. Don’t let Gasol’s age fool you, Mike D’Antoni may have misused him but Tom Thibodeau will use the big man to the best of his abilities. Gasol is not only a great rebounder, but he is also a great passer. Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson are going to form a scary front-court.
Rose has a great roster around him, and it’ll be his job to bring out the best in his teammates. Keep an eye out for Derrick Rose! Like many great players, I think he’s also going to have a tremendous comeback year.
