Michael Sam looks impressive in his NFL debut during the Rams preseason opener Michael Sam made his NFL debut Friday night as the Rams opened up their preseason schedule against the Saints. Sam has seen much of the public eye since announcing before the draft that he is a gay man. This made him the first openly gay football player to play during an NFL game. Sam entered the game with 5:13 left in the 1st quarter of the Rams 26-24 loss, and he instantly made an impact. Sam quickly recorded a successful pass rush on Saints quarterback Luke McCown that ended with Sam laying a good hit on the passer. He then recorded an assisted tackle on Saints runningback Khiry Robinson. Sam then recorded another impressive pass rush on McCown, forcing him to throw the ball away.
