The Los Angeles Lakers have won 16 championships and 31 conference titles. This organization has only retired 9 jerseys. The following players have their jerseys hanging at the top of Staples Center: Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Gail Goodrich, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, James Worthy, Jerry West and Jamaal Wilkes. Here are five of the best players in Lakers history: 5. Elgin Baylor Baylor appeared in eight NBA finals, while playing 13 seasons for the Lakers. He never actually won a championship, but he had several personal achievements. His 61 points against the Boston Celtics is still the NBA Finals single-game record for most points. In 1977, Baylor was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame. 4. Earvin “Magic” Johnson Magic is a 5 time NBA champion, 3 time NBA Finals MVP and 3 time NBA MVP. Free Agency starts at tonight at 12:01. There are a lot of questions going around the league with what could be the most exciting free agency in a long time. Big names like Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony are available and will be meeting with teams. The Lakers are in desperate need of some free agent help. I can’t name anyone on the roster other than Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash without having to look it up. What moves are the Lakers going to make, and what moves should they make? Current State of the Lakers Let’s start with what is happening. Nick Young opted out of his contract. It looks as though he wont be back. Pau Gasol is a free agent, and lets hope they don’t re-sign him. Kobe Bryant has a couple more years in him and he is making top dollar. Steve Nash is a waste ...

After losing Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets in free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make a splash in free agency this summer. They have their hearts set on bouncing back from their disastrous season. Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak believe the Lakers need an upgrade at point guard. Steve Nash is too old to be the starting point guard for the team, and Jordan Farmar just doesn’t cut it. Well guess who is on their radar? Point guard Kyle Lowry is coming off a career season with the Toronto Raptors. The Lakers are interested in signing the 28-year-old point guard. During the 2013-14 regular NBA season, Lowry averaged 18 PPG, 7.4 APG, 5 RPG and 1.5 SPG in a career-high 36 minutes per game. Along with DeMar DeRozan, he led the Toronto Raptors to the third-seed in the eastern conference. The Lakers lack a scoring punch ...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, except Jurgen Klinsmann. The U.S. men’s national team head coach is a complete idiot and I’m tired about hearing him make stupid statements. Recently, Klinsmann explained his decision to leave American soccer legend Landon Donovan off the 2014 FIFA World Cup roster. Obviously, that decision created a huge backlash and Klinsmann went ahead and defended himself during a recent interview with the New York Times Magazine. “This always happens in America,” Klinsmann said in the interview. “Kobe Bryant, for example — why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?” He has no right to talk ...

That was a pretty sad celebration. Nick Young needs to calm down, there’s not much to celebrate for Laker Nation. For the time being, the Los Angeles Lakers have embraced their new role as playoff spoilers. They’re so bad but thanks to Mike D’Antoni’s crappy uptempo system, they’re still capable of upsetting playoff caliber teams. But let’s look at the big picture. For the first time in several years, the Lakers are knocked out of playoff contention. Management has focused on the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft. So here comes the big question. Who will they select with their lottery pick? Kobe Bryant recently told the media that he would be happy to mentor either Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins. It’s official that Kansas Jayhawks star Andrew Wiggins will enter the 2014 NBA Draft. I think Wiggins will have a successful career in the NBA. I think he’s leaving Kansas too ...

Vino will need another month of rest. Kobe Bryant still has his heart set on returning to play this season. He’s also confident that he will return to his All-Star form. It’s a big challenge for the veteran guard, but he’s all up for it. Here’s what he had to say about returning to his All-Star form: “Are my best days behind me?  …to have those conversations with yourself and not be intimidated by that, and not be not succumbing to that, is part of the challenge. It’s really the biggest challenge saying, well, maybe this is the end, but then again, maybe it’s not. And it is my responsibility to do all that I can to make sure that it’s not. So, that’s really become the biggest challenge.”   We wish you all the best Vino… If anyone can overcome this obstacle, it’s definitely you! ...

You have to win titles to sit at the same lunch table as Magic and Jordan – Kobe Bryant Despite being in the twilight of his career, Kobe Bryant is still determined to win another title, but his actions may indicate otherwise. Some believe he should have taken a pay cut back in November. Instead, the Lakers star signed a two-year, $48.5 million extension without even officially returning to the court. From a business standpoint, making Kobe the highest-paid player in the NBA over the next two seasons is not the smartest idea. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that his current squad isn’t a championship caliber team. Changes are on the way in Los Angeles, and it’s going to be tough to surround Bryant with the right players. ...

Many athletes can have a brutal honesty about themselves and those around them, but often times it isn’t always expressed publicly. Most are aware of their limitations, what others can do better than them, what they do that works in the game. Lakers PG Steve Nash lets you in to see that honesty at work. He explains he knows he’s not the same player, and that his mobility has significantly changed. That he even sees the darkness creeping in on his career and that he wants to fight it. He wants to rage against the dying of the light. All he wants is one more good run at it.   In case you are wondering, Baron Davis isn’t actually attempting a comeback. He made a spoof of Steve Nash’s comeback video. But in all honesty, Baron needs to take his talents to Hollywood and pursue acting. He’s a really funny ...
